INSTRUMENTATION CABLES

Application BS5308 cables are used to carry voice and data services, they also serve as the interconnection between electrical equipment and instruments, particularly in and around process plants, where transducer generated signals are transmitted through to panels, controllers and other devices.
Standards BS5308 Part 1 Polyethylene Insulated Conductors
Conductor Plain annealed copper conductors complying with BS6360
Construction conductors Plain annealed copper conductors complying with BS6360
Insulation Polyethylene to BS6234 type 03 or XLPE (Cross Linked Polyethylene) for LSZH cables. (LSZH cables are generally to BS5308)
Pairing Two insulated conductors uniformly twisted together with a lay not exceeding 100mm.
Pair identification - individually pair screened cables One blue core and one black core in each pair identified by a numbered pair screen isolation tape. (Collectively Screened Pairs) Coloured, as per BS5308 PT1
Pair screens - individually screened pairs Where individual pair screening is required, an Aluminium/Polyester tape screen is applied to each pair, Metallic side down and in continuous contact with a 0.5mm² tinned copper drain wire
Pair screens - collectively screened cables For cables requiring a collective screen, an Aluminium/Polyester tape screen is applied over the laid up pairs metallic side down and in continuous contact with a 0.5mm² tinned copper drain wire.
Outer protection
Type 1 Extruded flame retardant PVC sheath (BS7655 Type TM1 or Type 6) or LSZH.
Type 2 Extruded polyethylene bedding (BS6234 Type 2C or 3C), Galvanised Steel wire armour (BS1442), Extruded flame retardant PVC sheath (BS7655 Type TM1) or LSZH.
Type 3 PVC bedding (BS7655 Type TM1 or Type 6), Extruded sheath of Lead Alloy (BS801), Galvanised Steel Wire Armour (BS1442), PVC sheath (BS7655 Type TM1).
Standard sheath colours Blue and Black.
Note: These cables are not suitable for direct connection to the public mains supply.
Voltage Rating 300/500V
Temperature Rating 0 to +70°C
Minimum Bending Radius 10 x overall diameter
Eland Product Group Ref A3I
